Edward Haymes, who left us the day after Thanksgiving, gave his family and communities much to be thankful for over a long life of love and achievement. A graduate of E.C. Glass High School in Lynchburg, VA, Lynchburg College, the University of Virginia, and the Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, where he received a doctorate in German, he is the author or co-author of 9 books, editor of 6 more, and author of scores of articles. He retired as a full professor from Cleveland State University in 2010, where he chaired the Modern Languages Department and Directed the Honors College during his tenure. Over a long career, he was also a lecturer at the Humboldt Universität Berlin and professor at the University of Houston and Virginia Commonwealth University. A great lover of music and pianist, he was a supporter of the Cleveland Orchestra and the Cleveland Chamber Music Society. He taught his two sons, Tom and David, how to think as artists by sharing his passion for music, reading, writing, and language with them. Most especially, he shared these passions with his beloved wife, Winifried, who enriched his journey for over 59 years. He left the world a better place. His family and friends will miss him.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions in memory of Edward to Cure PSP at https://www.psp.org
